From time to time, a friend has been sending pictures of birds and insects she’s found just going about her life. It’s been fun. We’ve been referencing a book and various websites to discern what meaning these critters might have for her. At the beginning of one of these phone chats, I saw a gecko near the bird feeders just off my deck.
As I’ve written before, my backyard’s been full of affirmations for my coaching clients for years. Cardinals have danced on my deck rail while people describe a significant personal shift. The hawks arrive and plant themselves through long conversations containing important new messages.
I have many more examples, so this phenomenon is not new. That said, I’d never seen a gecko in my Charlotte, North Carolina yard before, so I went online for an interpretation. You may see geckos in your yard all the time, but to me, their unusual presence says, “take note.”
From my visit to www.spiritwalkministry.com, here’s what spoke to me about geckos: “Having the ability to see through the transparency of life and get to the core of a situation (geckos have a transparent membrane over their eyes instead of an eyelid) naturally intuitive . . . It could represent the ability to tackle any problem with ease.”
The key here is to read what others say about the meanings of these animal totems through the lens of our own inner wisdom, or as the gecko would say, through our transparent eyelids. We do not surrender our inner knowing to a book, a psychic or a guru, for that is not learning. That is giving away our power.
While the path of disempowerment can be full of learning too, it is often the long (and painful) way around to our own soul. Forsaking our own guidance for that of another is rampant on the planet right now, and it is the source of a great deal of pain, anger, powerlessness, depression, bullying and violence.
This is just one reason why I am so grateful for the energy and information of my Akashic Records, and why I love supporting others in their journey to reading their own. The Records are my favorite way of connecting to my highest guidance and changing my energetic frequency so that I can create the life my soul desires this lifetime.
But that doesn’t mean I follow what I receive blindly. I discern whether the information resonates as truth. And I recognize that sometimes our Records will convey something that is so wrong it bounces us to owning our truth with a strength that receiving a message directly could not achieve — at least in that moment.
I think I have this quote right: “We see things not as they are, but as we are.” And I’ve seen these words attributed to both Anais Nin and the Talmud. (How’s that for an unlikely pair?) In the past I’ve invoked it to remind myself and others to monitor how our perceptions and beliefs shape our reality. Now I see that it also cautions against abdicating our power to external sources, even and especially in the name of guidance.
