As I sat down to write this, I opened my Akashic Records and asked, “What would be in the highest and best interest for all concerned for me to write about today?” and the answer was “coats.” Why? Well, apparently the point is that connecting to our higher guidance can be like putting on a coat. It’s simple, straightforward — and it’s either on or it’s off. If your coat’s hanging on you by one sleeve, it’s clearly not on.
So, let’s see where this goes. At this point, I have no idea. I don’t recognize this coat analogy as mine . . . yet.
People tend to think of connecting to their higher guidance as extraordinary, when in fact, it can be as ordinary as putting on a coat. Let’s try this:
If your higher guidance had a color, what would it be? Mine would be a light blue, much like the blue that borders this website. How long is your coat? Does it have buttons or a zipper? What’s the collar like? And the pockets?
Now, think of something about which you would like some guidance. Write a quick description of the situation and craft a couple of questions. If you have answers for any of those questions, write those down too.
Now, put your pen down (or stop typing), and imagine putting on your higher guidance coat. Slip your arm into one sleeve, move around to catch the other, and bring your coat up around your shoulders. Whether you button, snap or zip it is up to you. Close your eyes. See and feel your coat around you as you take three or four deep cleansing breaths.
Re-read your situation and questions, and start writing or typing the answers that are coming to you now. Just go with what comes, let it flow and do not second-guess anything. Keep writing, drawing or typing until nothing else comes through. Now, take off your coat and put away what you’ve written until tomorrow.
When tomorrow arrives, re-read everything, start to finish. (If your inner critic decides to participate, assure her she will have her chance later, but not now.) Put your inner guidance coat back on, read through everything once again, and then write your answer to this question: “What do I now know about this situation?” (If you’ve promised your inner critic her time, take off your guidance coat, write what your critic has to offer, then put your coat back on.)
So, what do you know now about your situation? How do you feel now about this idea that receiving guidance can be as simple as putting on a coat, if we let it? If you’re game to share, I’d love to hear what this was like for you.
