When people ask about the difference between the Akashic Records and intuition, I often start by saying that the Records are like intuition that is both on steroids and on demand. Yes, both are sources of guidance. Intuition, however, comes when we manage to turn off the mental churning that can prevent our higher knowing. Or, in words often attributed to Albert Einstein:
“I think 99 times and I find nothing. I stop thinking, swim in silence, and the truth comes to me.”
Intuition is Often a Happy Accident
Like Einstein, most of us find that intuition is a happy accident. That’s not surprising given the definition: Merriam-Webster describes intuition as, “…Quick and ready insight.” Dictionary.com defines it as, “…immediate apprehension.” It’s as if intuition slips in quickly before we can stop it.
And while we can accidentally land in our own Records, we also can learn to access them when we want to. It takes practice for most of us, that’s true. But because learning to access our Akashic Records is an intentional process, it allows us to install an on/off switch and receive guidance on demand. So, not only is access to our individual Akashic Records a birthright (i.e. we are born with the right and the ability to connect with every thought, word, feeling deed and experience our soul has ever had – we just don’t recognize that) our innate ability can be developed like any skill.
Akashic Records: an Intentional, Interactive, Deeper Dive
The Akashic Records also allow us to access them at will, and working in them is an interactive process. We can ask questions, get answers, and take deeper dives into topics. Intuition, on the other hand, is generally a fleeting experience that happens to us. And while its impact is often significant, it’s also more of a “take what you get and be grateful” experience.
The Records also offer us the opportunity for healing in a way intuition does not. In the Records we can release and clear energies, beliefs and other patterns that no longer serve us. We also can bring in higher energies, as well as new beliefs and patterns that result in spiritual expansion. Similar energetic shifts can happen as a result of intuition – absolutely. Still, such shifts are usually more of a happy accident than a conscious and on demand process.
A Download of Expanded Consciousness
But if I had to choose the biggest difference between intuition and the Akashic Records, I would say it is this: Answers in the Records come within a download of expanded consciousness – a combination of energies that both heal and expand us spiritually -- in addition to information for our minds. Click To Tweet In my own experience, it’s often my soul’s desire to send me that consciousness that prompts circumstances in my life that motivate me to go into my Records. I guess you could say that my soul is setting me up for spiritual expansion. And, with luck, I’m paying attention, and I am “getting it.”
But even if I don’t get it immediately, the energies in that download will continue to work on a time-released basis, until eventually, when I am ready, willing, and able to receive it, my answer arrives. Can I connect the dots between the answer and the specific session in my Records when I asked the question? Maybe and maybe not. But frankly, the longer I do this, the less that matters to me.
True, when I started working in my Akashic Records, I was looking for information. I thought it was the key to my spiritual growth and my ability to lead a better life. And while that information is a key, it is nothing compared to the healing and expanding energies that come in that download of consciousness from the Records.
Akashic Records Offer Healing Energies, Spiritual Growth
Now I understand that healing and spiritual growth are the most important aspects of my work in the Records. While the knowledge that comes from intuition can have a healing impact on my life now, the healing from the Records is at all levels of my being, through all times and all dimensions, for my highest and best good.
And that reminds me of another Einstein quote:
“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”
My original intention to gain knowledge from my Records was coming from my rational mind – and that was great. After all, it got me to learn how to access my Records. But my journey in the Records has taken my intention beyond rational knowledge to include spiritual growth and expansion. And, that has been a sacred gift beyond measure.

You laid it all out so sweetly, Nancy! I found so many lucid “Nancy” quotes that I wanted to highlight them so I could have them to reread.
My first one is: ” . . .the Records are like intuition that is both on steroids and on demand. ” I totally agree!
Thank you!
Thank you Sandra! I’m alway grateful when these posts speak to you.
