“God puts a rainbow in every cloud,” has long been my favorite Maya Angelou quote. Dr. Angelou was a very wise woman so there is a lot of competition for the title of favorite saying. But this one’s been a life-changer for me. Yes, it’s my favorite in great part because it is so hopeful, so positive. But it gives me more than hope.
The concept of a rainbow in every cloud helps me reconnect to my faith when I need it most, and when life is at its most challenging, I find faith more helpful than hope. Not only that, but the rainbow concept has helped me understand why faith is more helpful to me.
Let me be clear: It’s not that I don’t believe in the power of hope. I do. Hope, is a powerful prayer. To me, hope says “Please God!”
Faith Says “Thank You”
Faith, however, faith says “Thank you God.” Faith is knowing not only that all will be well, it also trusts that all is already well, even when we feel anything but certain at the moment. Faith gratefully assumes that our prayers already have been answered, even when there are no visible facts backing that up.
You see, the concept of a rainbow in every cloud is another soul-level truth – a truth rooted in our soul’s expansion rather than in the facts at hand. And, I’ve seen time and again how the Akashic Records connect us to those rainbows. The Records will describe them for us when we can’t quite yet see them on our own – yet. And in so doing, the Records also show us how the rainbow will lead to our healing as humans, as well as to our growth as souls. What was once a nightmare can become a dream come true, whether we knew we had this dream, or not.
A friend was sharing her rainbow at lunch the other day. “These last two years have been very challenging, that’s for sure. And they have been a gift. I have learned so much.”
From there she described how she used to think that her spirituality would keep “bad” things from happening. “It would keep me safe,” she told us. “It was my source of security.”
Challenges Become Gifts
She went on to explain that now she sees how her spirituality gives her a way to navigate the life challenges which lead to her spiritual growth. This realization is the rainbow, or the gift, of the last two years.
For those who chat regularly with their souls, whether via the Akashic Records or another gateway, trusting we’ll find a gift in each challenge becomes easier each time we see it happen for ourselves, or for someone else. As trusting becomes easier, we naturally become more grateful for the challenge, even before we see the rainbow. Because we trust that the gift is there, we can become grateful before we know what it is.
Gratitude Releases the Need for Challenge
In turn, because gratitude is a higher frequency than fear, worry, or any of the other emotions we typically feel in times of challenge, our gratitude opens us to recognize the gift sooner than we might otherwise. That, of course, releases the need for the challenge, allowing its resolution to appear more quickly and easily.
And it is from there that our souls begin to show us how we are collaborating with them to help create rainbows for others. Or, in the words of Dr. Angelou: “And the thing to do, it seems to me, is to prepare yourself to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud. Someone who may not look like you, may not call God by the same name you call God, if they call God at all…”
Becoming a Rainbow for Another
So, eventually, we start to see — and even expect — that one of the rainbows in our clouds is our soul having signed us up to be a rainbow for someone else. Perhaps we are playing the victim so another may know the contrast of being a persecutor, and move into the balance of their soul’s authentic power. Or maybe we’ve taken on a diagnosis so we can play a role in clearing that illness from the DNA of a family lineage. The more often we have these experiences, the more easily we trust that these rainbows are there, whether we can see them yet or not.
For me, this was how my faith was born. For me, it’s a trust built from experience. Yes, a bit of my faith drifted in from my soul. But most of it? Well, the vast majority of my faith comes from sitting in front of one of life’s red lights, trusting that eventually it will turn green, which it does. And just like in traffic, the more I trust that the light will change, and the traffic will flow, the more quickly and easily it seems that’s exactly what happens. Each green light makes it easier to be more grateful for the next red, which then means the more gracefully and easily the light turns color.
This journey from hope to faith has been yet another gift of working in the Akashic Records – both mine, and others. It’s true: those of us who facilitate Akashic sessions get to see the rainbows in other people’s clouds, which can speed this process up for ourselves. This is just another reason why we’ve found that working in the Records with other people is both an honor and a blessing.
